Dr. Chris Smallen began his career as a Biology and Physical Science teacher at Lenoir City High School in Lenoir City, Tennessee in 1998. Since that time he has served as an instructional technology coach and assistant principal. Currently, as the Chief Technology Officer, he has the opportunity to work with all educators in Lenoir City to imagine the possibilities that can impact teaching and learning, create those opportunities, and share the celebrations and challenges to provide every student the opportunity to excel. During his tenure as Chief Technology Officer the district has implemented a one-to-one digital conversion in grades 1-12 as well as a statewide virtual school, The iLearn Institute at Lenoir City Schools. He has also served the Tennessee Department of Education as a member of their Personalized Learning Task Force. He is a Google Certified Trainer and a CoSN Certified Educational Technology Leader. Dr. Smallen is the past chairman of the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Educational Technology Association which is an affiliate organization of both ISTE, CoSN and the DLC. Dr. Smallen currently serves as a member of the CoSN Board of Directors.
