Dawn Schiavone, CETL and M. ED, is currently the Student Data Privacy (SDP) Officer at Northern Buckeye Education Council in Northwest Ohio. She has been in education for over 38 years. Dawn has the passion for leading districts through the opportunities and challenges that technology continually brings to students, teachers, staff, and administrators as the educational landscape evolves. Retiring after many years as CTO of two districts in NWO, Dawn has taken on the role of leading the way through Ohio, educating districts on SDP and privacy laws. She also assists districts with developing an SDP plan, including developing a vendor assessment and ensuring vendors are keeping student data private. Dawn has the CETL designation and has presented numerous times at conferences including A4L/PESC, Brainstorm, CoSN National, CoSN Ohio, ETLA (formerly Learn21), FETC, ITIP, MACUL, and OETC. She conducted a technology training series for graduate credit to teachers and staff, annually, for over 20 years. She is the ETLA SDPC co-chair, the CoSN Data Privacy Committee co-chair, elected to the A4L/SDPC North American Privacy Leadership Group, and is a member of many leadership and planning committees with A4L/SDPC, CoSN, and ETLA. Most recently, Dawn helped lead NBEC to become the first ESA in the nation to earn CoSN’s Trusted Learning Environment (TLE) Seal. Dawn earned her bachelor's degree from BGSU in computer science and mathematics education. She earned her master's degree in educational technology from the University of Toledo.
