José R. González is an award-winning visionary technology leader with over 22 years of experience advancing educational equity and innovation in Los Angeles. As Chief Technology Officer for the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE), he directs technology strategy for the nation's largest preK-12 educational agency.
Throughout his distinguished career, José has demonstrated exceptional ability in strategic planning, quality assurance, performance improvement, and vendor management. Prior to his role at LACOE, he strengthened technology infrastructure at LAUSD, where he led multiple high-impact teams and spearheaded special projects that consistently exceeded ambitious objectives. His talent for full lifecycle planning, coupled with his proficiency in tracking progress through KPIs and advising district personnel on critical hardware and software decisions, has resulted in measurable improvements in educational technology.
José's exceptional leadership has earned significant recognition within the educational technology community. His team developed award-winning AI guidelines that have been adopted as a model for responsible AI implementation in K-12 environments. During the devastating 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, José demonstrated extraordinary leadership by deploying strategic partnerships that secured critical technology funding and support for affected schools. He coordinated with government agencies, private sector technology companies and philanthropic organizations to deploy emergency connectivity solutions, replace damaged equipment and maintain educational continuity for displaced students.
