Louis McDonald recently retired as the Director of Technology for Fauquier County Public Schools, where he led transformative initiatives over 12 years in a division serving 11,000 students. His accomplishments include implementing a 1:1 Chromebook program, rolling out Google Workspace, and transitioning to a new student information system.
With over 40 years of experience in information systems management, software engineering, strategic planning, and project management, Louis has held leadership roles in both education and technology sectors. As the CTO/CIO at Virginia’s Center for Innovative Technology (CIT), he focused on early-stage investments, emerging technology trends, and fostering collaboration between educational institutions and the IT industry. He also managed the development of Virginia DOE’s Longitudinal Data System, enabling data-driven insights into education and workforce development. Earlier in his career, Louis worked with The Aerospace Corporation, SRA International, and Hughes Aircraft as a consultant to the federal government.
Louis holds a B.S. in Computer Science from California State Polytechnic University, an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Southern California, and an M.S. in Information Systems with a Federal CIO Certification from George Washington University. He is also a Certified Educational Technology Leader (CoSN CETL).
Currently, Louis serves as an adjunct professor at Laurel Ridge Community College, teaching CompTIA certifications, and as the Project Director for CoSN’s K-12 Technology Environmental Sustainability initiative.
