As generative AI transforms education, rural school systems need a practical, locally relevant, and sustainable path forward. This session introduces a national initiative that offers a scalable, replicable model for building long-term AI capacity in K-12 schools.
The "Building Capacity for Generative AI in K-12 Education project" is a partnership of CoSN and AESA, with additional support from AASA and SETDA. The initiative is grounded in the CoSN/CGCS K–12 Gen AI Maturity Tool, which helps school systems of all sizes assess readiness across multiple cross-functional domains and take meaningful steps toward responsible AI adoption. Our delivery model is a three-tiered approach that blends deep AI expertise with local context expertise. National experts coach Lead Trainers, who mentor Regional Trainers, who in turn support school systems through in-person workshops, adapting the delivery to the needs and goals of local communities.
This session promotes lessons learned as a part of the CoSN AI initiative.
